UK Age Checks Begin: The Cam Brands That Committed to Ofcom
From 25 July 2025, every site or app that allows pornography must use "highly effective" age checks for UK users under the Online Safety Act. A month earlier, Ofcom named the providers that had committed to comply, including the cam brands Cam4, Jerkmate, LiveHDCams, Streamate and Stripchat. Since then Ofcom has fined eight porn services, none of them cam platforms.

The Ofcom list
On 26 June 2025 Ofcom announced that major providers had agreed to introduce age checks from the 25 July deadline and were "happy to be named at this stage". The full list: Pornhub, BoyfriendTV, Cam4, FrolicMe, inxxx, Jerkmate, LiveHDCams, MyDirtyHobby, RedTube, Streamate, Stripchat, Tube8 and YouPorn.
Five of those are live cam brands. Streamate and Jerkmate share the same performer network, so one commitment covers the same shows on two front ends. Stripchat and Cam4 are freemium token sites built around free public rooms.
Chaturbate, BongaCams and LiveJasmin were not on the list. Being absent only means a service was not named in that announcement; it is not evidence of non-compliance. We found no official page from those three describing how they check UK viewers.
What changed on 25 July 2025
Ofcom's user guide says "just ticking a box to say you're over 18 will no longer be enough". Compliant sites must use methods such as facial age estimation, open banking, digital identity services, credit card checks, email-based age estimation, mobile operator checks or photo-ID matching, and explicit content must not show before or during the check.
On cam sites this mostly shows up as a verification screen before streams load. Cam4, for example, shows "As per your regional laws, please verify your age" with a free card check where "Nothing will be debited". Streamate says it uses "age verification services, where required, and credit card to prove age".

No webcam platform appears among the cases (page last updated 30 September 2026). On 22 September 2026 Ofcom also opened an investigation into Aylo's use of Apple's age signals on Pornhub, after Aylo had blocked new UK users from February 2026.
What it means for viewers and models
