Spy Mode on Cam Sites
Spy mode on cam sites lets you watch a private show that someone else is paying for, at a lower per-minute rate and without taking part. Sites call it spy, voyeur or sneak peek. You see the show, but you usually cannot chat, and the person who booked the private keeps control of it.
In short
- Spy access is the cheapest way to see a private show: Stripchat 4 to 60 tokens a minute, BongaCams default 15, MyFreeCams a fixed 20.
- LiveJasmin sells a 25-second Sneak Peek for 1.99 credits, and XLoveCam a SneakPeek of a few seconds at a fixed price per performer.
- Spies cannot write in chat. On Chaturbate and MyFreeCams they do not even see the private chat.
- Exclusive or "true" private shows cannot be spied on. Performers can also switch spying off on several sites.
- Spying is usually not refundable.
Spy mode only makes sense next to private shows, so read that guide first if the difference between private and exclusive is new to you. Both belong to our cam site features series.
What spy mode on cam sites is
When a viewer takes a performer into a standard private show, the public room goes dark. Spy mode reopens a window into that show for other members who pay a smaller per-minute rate. The performer earns from both the private customer and the spies, which is why many performers leave spying on.
The person who booked the private still sets the direction of the show. Spies watch only. That makes spy mode a low-cost way to see what a performer's private shows are like before you book one yourself.
How spy mode works
- Find a show in progress. Chaturbate lists them under the Private Shows tab ("Spy On This Private Show"). BongaCams has a Spy Mode tab of current shows that even loads logged out.
- Check the spy rate. It is set by the performer within the site's limits, or fixed on MyFreeCams.
- Enter as a spy. Some Chaturbate broadcasters require a minimum token balance. Stripchat requires tokens on your account even for its free first peek.
- Watch until the show ends or you leave. When the private ends, the spy session ends with it.

What spying costs compared with a private
Where sites publish both numbers, spying costs a fraction of a private. BongaCams defaults are 15 tokens a minute to spy against 60 for a private. MyFreeCams charges 20 against 60. CamSoda's model wiki gives default rates of 12 tokens for spying and 30 for a private. LiveJasmin's Sneak Peek is priced per peek rather than per minute, and new members get 10 free peeks after validating their email.
For the cash value of these token rates, see our page on private show prices, which includes spy rates, or the per-site pages such as BongaCams pricing.
How to keep your own private show spy-free
If you book a private and do not want an audience, pick the no-spy option:
- Chaturbate: a premium private show (cannot be spied on).
- Stripchat: Exclusive Private, or Cam2Cam, which also has no spies.
- BongaCams: Full-private Chat.
- CamSoda: Exclusive Private.
- MyFreeCams: TruePrivate, activated in My Account (see TruePrivate explained).
- LiveJasmin: Exclusive Private, via the lock icon.
- Streamate: Exclusive chat. Cams.com: Exclusive Chat. XLoveCam: 100% Xclusive Show.
On Chaturbate, broadcasters can also disable spying or set their own spy rate.
Limitations
- No say in the show. Spies cannot chat on any platform we checked, and some cannot even read the private chat.
- The show can end at any moment, because the private customer decides how long it lasts.
- Refunds: Stripchat says spying is not covered by its refund policy, MyFreeCams excludes spy shows from token refunds, and LiveJasmin lists peeks as non-refundable.
- Snapshots cost extra on LiveJasmin (0.5 credits for a snapshot from a private show).
CamSoda also has "Voyeur Cams" with a 24-hour playback timeline. Despite the name, that is a separate product, not spying on a private show.
FAQ
How much does it cost to spy on a private show?

Can the model see who is spying?
LiveJasmin says the model is not notified of a Sneak Peek. Other platforms do not state it clearly on their public pages.

Is there a free spy option?
Stripchat gives members with tokens a free 15-second peek once per show, LiveJasmin gives new members 10 free peeks, and some fan club tiers include free spying.
