Cam Streaming Setup
A reliable cam streaming setup starts with your upload speed: Chaturbate asks for at least 5 Mbps upload for standard quality and 10 Mbps or more for HD, over wired Ethernet. Then match resolution and bitrate to that speed (Cam4 publishes a table: 1280x720 at 3,000 kbps for 5 to 9 Mbps upload, for example), stream H.264 video and AAC audio at a constant bitrate, and connect OBS with the site's server URL and stream key.

- Test your upload speed over a wired connection at the time you plan to stream.
- Use Cam4's upload-to-settings table as a starting point; stay within each platform's limits.
- H.264 + AAC, constant bitrate (CBR) and 30 fps work on every site that documents settings.
- Keyframe interval differs: Chaturbate says 2 to 5 seconds, Cam4 says 1 second. Use your platform's value.
- If the stream stutters, lower the bitrate before anything else.

Step-by-step cam streaming setup
- Measure your upload. Run a speed test on the computer you will stream from, over Ethernet, at your usual streaming time. Note the upload figure, not the download.
- Connect by cable. Chaturbate recommends wired Ethernet and MyFreeCams "strongly" recommends it. Wi-Fi drops cause most freezes.
- Install OBS from the official site. Download only from obsproject.com; Cam4 warns about a phishing campaign with fake OBS downloads.
- Add your sources. Create a scene, add your webcam (or capture card) as a video source and your microphone as audio. Add noise suppression in the audio mixer if your room is noisy.
- Set video. Choose an output resolution from the table below and 30 fps. Both 4:3 and 16:9 are accepted on Chaturbate.
- Set output. Encoder x264 (Cam4 suggests the "veryfast" preset) or a hardware encoder such as QuickSync; rate control CBR; video bitrate from the table; keyframe interval per your platform; profile Main or High.
- Set audio. AAC; Chaturbate accepts up to 192 kbps.
- Enable dynamic bitrate. Cam4 recommends OBS's "Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion" option, which lowers bitrate when the connection struggles.
- Connect to the site. Copy the RTMP server URL and your private stream key from the model area and paste them into OBS under Settings, Stream. CamSoda is listed as a service inside OBS.
- Test before going public. Start streaming, check the picture and sound in the site's preview, watch for dropped frames, then open your room.

As general practice, keep your total stream bitrate well below your measured upload (many streamers aim to use no more than about two thirds of it), because other devices on the network and speed swings eat into the rest.

Cam4's OBS guide maps upload speed directly to settings. It is a useful starting point on other sites too, as long as you stay within their limits.

- Resolution 240p up to 4K (30 fps maximum at 4K); 24 to 30 fps or 48 to 60 fps.

- CamSoda: OBS or RTMP with stream key and server URL, up to 50,000 kbps.
- BongaCams: OBS recommended; streaming through OBS at 720p or above earns CamScore points and an HD+ icon. No bitrate table found in our research.
- LiveJasmin: JasminCam desktop app or browser; an OBS multi-camera guide is on the model wiki.
RTMP itself runs over TCP port 1935; RTMPS adds TLS. If your network blocks unusual ports (some offices and dorms do), the stream may fail to connect.
Troubleshooting a laggy stream
- Stutters or freezes for viewers: lower the video bitrate one step in the table; switch from Wi-Fi to Ethernet; enable dynamic bitrate.
- OBS reports encoding overload: the computer cannot keep up. Use a faster x264 preset, a hardware encoder, a lower resolution, or close other apps.
- Blurry picture when you move: often too little light, not too little bitrate (see cam lighting setups); also check that fps is not set higher than your camera delivers.
- Audio out of sync: set the camera and microphone to the same device where possible, or use OBS's sync offset.
- Cannot connect: re-copy the server URL and stream key; check for a firewall blocking port 1935.
Phone streaming setup
If you stream from a phone, the same logic applies: test upload, use a stable connection and keep the phone powered and mounted. Chaturbate and Stripchat support mobile browser broadcasting (Stripchat excludes Honor, ZTE and Huawei phones for browser streaming), while Cam4, LiveJasmin and BongaCams have broadcaster apps.
