Cam Model

A cam model is an adult performer, aged 18 or older, who streams live video on a webcam platform and earns money from viewers through tips, paid private or group shows, fan club subscriptions and content sales. Platforms also call them broadcasters, performers, hosts or creators. Every cam model must pass the platform's identity and age verification before going live.

In short

  • Cam models are independent performers or work through a studio.
  • Requirements: 18+ (21 in some regions on some sites), a government photo ID and a selfie or ID photo.
  • Pay is a share of what viewers spend, from a fixed USD 0.05 per token to level-based shares of 30% to 80%.
  • Platforms name the role differently: broadcaster (Chaturbate), host (ImLive), performer (Streamate).

What a cam model does

A cam model runs a live room. On freemium sites the public room is free to watch and the model earns through tips, tip menus, tip goals and paid shows. On premium sites, public chat is a lobby and earnings come mainly from per-minute private shows. Many models also sell photos and videos, run a fan club and use interactive toys that react to tips.

Models set most of their own prices within platform limits, choose their hours and decide which show types they offer. They are typically not employees of the platform; Chaturbate, for example, has broadcasters sign an Independent Broadcaster Agreement.

Requirements to become a cam model

Every platform requires proof of age and identity before payouts, and usually before streaming. Typical requirements from official pages:

  • being at least 18; BongaCams and XloveCam require 21 where local law sets that age;
  • a valid, unexpired government photo ID (passport, driver's license or ID card);
  • a selfie, or a photo holding the ID next to your face (Stripchat also asks for a handwritten note with the date and username);
  • verification of everyone who appears on camera;
  • a tax form on some sites (W-9 for US models, W-8 for non-US on CamSoda and Cams.com).

Behind this is US federal law: 18 U.S.C. 2257 and 28 CFR 75.2 require ID checks and records for sexually explicit content, including a recording "with running-time sufficient to identify the performer" for live online shows. Card networks add their own rules: Mastercard requires documented age and identity verification of everyone depicted. The full process is in how to start camming.

Independent models and studios

Most platforms accept both. An independent model has their own account and receives payouts directly. A studio is a business that manages several models, often providing a room and equipment; studio accounts collect the earnings of attached models and pay them. On Chaturbate, studio broadcasters cannot convert tokens themselves. SkyPrivate only accepts service providers that operate through a legal entity.

How cam models get paid

The payout share is the most important number for a model, and platforms express it in different ways:

Fixed per-token rates (Chaturbate, Stripchat and MyFreeCams at USD 0.05, Cam4 at USD 0.10) are easy to compare. Level-based shares like LiveJasmin's (30% at the lowest earnings level, 80% at the top, reset every period) depend on how much you earn. ImLive's host agreement starts hosts at 27% of per-minute chat spend. Compare all platforms in webcam platform fees and payout shares.

FAQ

How do cam models get paid?

Viewers pay in tokens, credits or dollars; the platform converts the model's share to money and pays it out on a schedule (weekly, twice a month or every two weeks, depending on the site) by methods such as bank transfer, e-wallets, checks or crypto.

Do cam models need ID?

Yes. Every platform we cover requires a valid government photo ID and a selfie or ID photo, and verifies everyone who appears on camera.

What is a cam studio?

A business that manages several cam models, usually providing space and equipment and receiving the models' earnings to pay them under its own agreement.

Is a cam model the same as a broadcaster or host?

Yes. Chaturbate says broadcaster, ImLive says host, Streamate says performer, and many sites say creator.
